Three years ago our oldest son, Tristan, was diagnosed autism at the age of three. Since Tristan's diagnosis, I have been working on a Vermont system of care for individuals with ASD and advocating in Vermont and in Washington D.C. for more funding and support for families and individuals with ASD.
Before children, Angela worked for then Congressman (now Senator) Sanders and has used her experience to help create a new system of care for individuals with ASD and advised the Vermont Congressional team on the Autism Combating Act.
Over the last four years, we and our team of professionals has helped Tristan grow and develop from a three year old that was 24 months delayed across all areas of development to an almost seven year old that is fully integrated in a regular classroom. Tristan still has autism, but we are growing him into a strong, developing, young boy who enjoys his friends and classmates.
Through my work I have seen the lack of supports for people with ASD and their families have, so I have created a business, Parenting Autism, to step in and help. Parenting Autism produces DVDs and workbooks to help parents parent on the spectrum. In addition to our exercises and tips in our workbooks and DVDs, Parenting Autism gives all profits back to the autism community.
